Come to know yourself as you really are through God’s eyes

Knowing Ourselves
Know You Are Eternal – Part 1

Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:10-13

Key Verse: 1 John 5:13

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

How important do you think it is to truly know yourself? If you’ll do some study on this topic, you’ll find that most experts say it is critical that we all know ourselves well. When we know ourselves, then we make better choices on what we allow ourselves to think about, involve ourselves in, and spend our money on. When we don’t know ourselves, we step into traps that bring harm to us and those we love. For us believers, we know the evil one is anxious to keep us blind to our true selves because he wants to take advantage of our ignorance and be a part of setting traps to destroy us.

Unfortunately, what we know about ourselves often comes from what we see in the mirror and what others say about us. When we depend on those two resources for self-image, we are living lies and are missing all that God knows about us!

If you are reading this, I hope you believe that there is a God in heaven who knows you better than anyone else, including yourself. If you believe that, doesn’t it make sense that you look to Him for insight into who you really are? The good news is that not only does He know you better than anyone else, He loves you more than anyone possibly could. We are safe as we let Him tell us who we really are. His wisdom will never miss anything—good or bad. He takes the bad stuff about us and turns it around, making that area a blessing rather than a curse. Of course, we must let Him do His work in our lives. We must trust His process, which can be painful in the immediate, but bring great results in the end.

This month, I hope you will take the journey, with me, of knowing yourself as God Himself reveals it to us. You will be blessed and become an effective person that blesses the world around you.

Father, open my eyes to who I am. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
