Growing My Prayers
Intercessory Prayer

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 1:18-23

Key Verse: Ephesians 1:17

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Today’s scripture provides powerful motivation for intercessory prayer. Intercessory prayer is the prayers we pray for other people. The question we wrestle with is: What can we do in prayer to help other people in their walk with God? The Apostle Paul answers that question within these verses. First, we can pray that others will receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so they can know God better! What a wonderful prayer to pray!

Secondly, we can ask God to open the eyes of other’s hearts, so they could know the hope He gives. That is another wonderful prayer to pray for people around you! The phrase, “open the eyes of their heart” is referring to their deep understanding of spiritual matters. It is asking God to help them believe and trust Him from their hearts, even when their minds can’t comprehend this infinite God!

Third, we can pray that others can know all that is waiting for them if they will stay faithful: “the riches of His glorious inheritance.” God has prepared eternal blessings that no mind can conceive of for those who overcome this evil world and all its temptations. We can pray that God will reveal to those we’re praying for, all that is awaiting them!

Finally, Paul writes that we can ask God to grant others around us His incomparably great power! Wow, what a privilege to intercede for others, giving them these spiritual blessings.

Father, please remind me often of the joy of praying for others and the great benefit it brings to their lives. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, amen.

I have discovered that praying an intercessary pray for someone, especially with them builds their hope, their faith and their awareness of Jesus. In addition I believe i come away from that experience blest at least as much as they were. Thank you pastor Ben for your insight and wisdom.
