Cleaning the Fish – Tools Needed
The Commands – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:16-20
Key Verse: Matthew 28:20
…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Picking up where I left off in yesterday’s devotional, we see that it is the New Testament teachings that become our tools for “cleaning fish.” We are cleansed when we apply the commands to our personal life. As we disciple others, we lead them back to Jesus’ teachings, so they can be cleansed as well!
Look what Jesus said in John 17:17: “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your Word, which is truth.” Jesus is pointing to the power of God’s Word, our Bible. It is the tool that will have the power to make all sinners holy! No one is beyond the power of God to clean them up! Anyone who will learn God’s commands and apply them to their lives will soon see that they are living holy lives.
Jesus commissioned His disciples, and all who would follow after that time, to “clean the fish” after they caught them. The Bible tells us that the angels rejoice every time a sinner repents and comes to Jesus (Luke 15:10). However, Jesus didn’t commission us to simply get “converts.” He wanted “clean” and “mature” disciples made. So Jesus included the instructions to “teach them everything I have told you.” God’s Word is our best tool for “cleaning fish.”
Father, I will hide your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you. I will teach others to do the same. In Jesus’ name, amen.
