Plug In…Pour Out
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:17-32
Key Verse: Ephesians 4:23-24
…to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
If you can take a few minutes to read the scripture reading section for today, you’ll note that an old attitude is described. In Ephesians 4:19, the Apostle Paul reminds us that we used to “give ourselves over to sensuality, so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.” As Christ followers we must develop a new attitude, as our Key Verse describes. We must not allow ourselves to live only for ourselves but look to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4).
When we find a ministry to plug into and start serving others, we start pouring out to others what God has done for us. Our lives should look more like an ever-flowing stream, rather than a stale pond. As we pour our lives out for kingdom causes, God refills our lives with more blessings. His blessings to us will always be more than we can pour out to others. We really can’t out give God!
If this cycle really works, why wouldn’t all Christ followers immediately plug in? In my opinion, one reason is that God’s blessings often don’t fit the immediate gratification demand that some want. Also, some believers are not keeping in step with God’s Spirit, thus they become more fleshly than spiritual in their daily life. The challenge for all Christ followers is to value spiritual blessings more than worldly pleasures.
Father, I’m going to look for ways today to pour out my life for you! Open my eyes to the Kingdom cause that you want me to focus on. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
