Fear of Insignificance – The Need for Respect
Clay in the Potter’s Hand
Scripture: Jeremiah 18:6
“O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.”
Do you ever feel like your life is a “marred mess?” Have you made so many bad decisions that you feel God has set you aside? Do you fear that, indeed, you have become insignificant to God and others? Have you lost respect for yourself and do you feel a loss of respect from others?
If your answer is yes to any or all the above questions, then you know how God’s children were feeling in the days when Jeremiah lived and was a prophet. Our God spoke to these questions, through the mouth of His servant Jeremiah, as recorded in our scripture today! A common site for their culture was a potter, molding clay into the many different shapes that would be used in various ways – according to their shape. The potter was in control and had all rights to make the shapes and sizes of vessels as he deemed necessary.
God is saying to every person who feels their life has been marred, for whatever reason, that He is still in control. He will devise a plan and work this plan to make us into a new vessel for His kingdom purposes! Does God have the right and authority? Yes, He is our creator and redeemer; our potter and we are His clay. I challenge you today to submit to God’s plan and become pliable clay in the hands of a good God! God never wastes one minute of our lives… all things work together for our good… trust Him!
Father, sometimes I feel as useless as a big lump of clay. But I recommit myself to your master hands… make of me what you will. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, amen.
