God Asks: Deal or No Deal?
January 2020 God Asks: Deal or No Deal?

If God allows testing or trial to come your way, it is right and perfect – He know better than we do!

What is in God’s Case?
Love

Scripture Reading: 1 John 4:15-18

Key Verse: 1 John 4:16

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

God is love. The word “love” paints different pictures for different people. For some, it is an emotional feeling: God is an emotional being and feels loving feelings for us. This is true, at times, but misses the main thought of biblical love. To other people, perfect love means “perfect justice.” Since God loves everyone the same, they say, “God demands equal justice for all.” Again, this idea has partial truth.

God is love. The Greek word is “agape” and that points us in the direction of perfect motives and perfect actions. God’s motives are always pure and always have our best interests in mind. If you are a child of God, through faith in His Son Jesus Christ, you will enjoy the full benefits of God’s pure motives.

God is love. The second part of agape style love is “perfect action or behavior.” God does all things correctly. He is blameless and faultless! If He allows testing or trial to come your way, it’s right and perfect. It may disappoint us, at the time, but we will eventually agree with God’s decision.

Both these aspects of God’s love are why John writes in 1 John 4:18: “…perfect love drives out fear.” It may not drive out disappointment, but it should drive fear from our hearts. When we choose God’s case, it is void of fear regarding any thoughts that harm could come to us that God hasn’t filtered and measured. He will not allow us to face more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Don’t forget: God is love!

Father, your style of love is beyond human understanding; utterly amazing! Please remind me to surrender my fears and trust your love today. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
