To be led by God, surrender to His purposes, not our agendas

Surrender to God’s Purposes
Who’s the Judge?

Scripture: 1 Samuel 24:12

May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.

In these last six days of March, I want to highlight what David was truly saying in our scripture. Saul was the king of Israel that soon would be replaced by David. During this transition, Saul turned on David with a jealous rage… determined to kill him. Saul was really fighting God and His purposes for Israel and David. David had several opportunities to kill Saul, but never took them because David was convinced that that wasn’t his job. David had a deep sense of God’s direction and guiding hand in his life. He refused to direct his own destiny – he wanted God to have full control. David’s surrender to God’s purposes is clear in his words in 1 Samuel 24:12: “May the Lord judge between you and me.”

If we are going to enjoy God’s divine leadership in our lives, we too must surrender to God’s purposes. It can’t be about me! I must want God’s plan to get accomplished on earth… I must offer myself as a tool in God’s hand. It is easy to get consumed with our agendas…our desires…our comfort. But when God is handed a life totally dedicated to God’s purposes, there is no limit to what will be accomplished. Would you be such a life?

It is ok to have human desires – Jesus did while He was on earth. But when it came down to accomplishing Kingdom purposes, we hear Jesus pray: “Not my will, but thy will be done.” To be led by God, we must make the surrender to His purposes.

Father, I keep trying to make this life about me. Please keep reminding me of your greater divine plan. I surrender to you today. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
