More Than a Job
Gifts for Ministry
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:21-31
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
When we receive Jesus Christ into our lives and ask God to forgive us of our sins, because of Jesus – we join God’s family. The apostle Paul tells us today, in our scripture, that each of us has our part to do within this family. (Paul refers to the Family of God as the Body of Christ – a common analogy in scripture.) God, being the Head of this eternal Family, appoints His children to do different ministries. These appointments come with a special enablement to accomplish the ministry we are appointed to – these are called gifts. If you take time to read the additional reading portion for today, you will read several examples, such as: teaching, administration, healing, helping and many more. The list given in 1 Corinthians 12 is normally not thought of as an exhaustive list, but as examples. God gives gifts today that aren’t listed here in 1 Corinthians 12. Whatever God sees as a needed ministry in His Family, He then appoints some to go do it – gifting them as they obey!
What a privilege it is to find what God has appointed us to do. What confidence we can have – knowing with that appointment comes our gifting! The old saying fits here: Where God guides – He provides. Let me encourage you to pray and seek the appointment God has for you. Don’t allow negative thoughts to tell you that God has no place for you. Our scripture for today refutes that lie and assures each of us that God has an appointment for every single believer. If you are a child of God, you have a part in His Great Family!
Father, I am thrilled to be part of your family. I am willing to do my part that you have assigned me. Open my eyes to my ministry. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
