God doesn’t have a job for you; He has a ministry for your life!

More Than a Job
Finding My Gift

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

The apostle Paul starts 1 Corinthians 12 with a clear goal in mind: He didn’t want anyone to be ignorant about spiritual gifts. In other words, this is so important that he wanted to make this process very clear. God is not hiding our gifts from us. He wants to utilize each of His children to accomplish a great work here on earth. God doesn’t have a job for you. He has a ministry for your life! Life ministries don’t have start and stop times, nor do they pay the same “wages” as a job! A life ministry is about what God has appointed you to accomplish while you live in this world. A life ministry comes with the gifts and graces of God Himself, working in us! Philippians 2:13 reminds us that it is God who works in us to “want” and to “act” according to His good purposes.

The first thing we all need to know about finding our life ministry is that we must “remain” in Jesus. That means a daily quiet time to share in fellowship with the Triune God. It means to read the Bible with an open mind – looking for instructions on how to live worthy of our calling! Remaining in Jesus means to weekly touch base with other believers, drawing encouragement from them – as well as giving the same.

The second step in finding your life ministry is trying different ministries that interest you. Volunteer to do some area of ministry, see how it feels. You may end up trying several different areas before feeling confident that you have found your place.

Father, I am honored that you would decide to choose me to help grow your Kingdom. Please lead me to the ‘place’ where I can spend the rest of my life serving you. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
