Our shepherd provides all that we truly need, as we allow Him to guide our spending

Showers of Blessings
Our Shepherd’s Money!

Scripture: Ezekiel 34:25-26

“‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts so that they may live in the desert and sleep in the forests in safety. I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.’”

No one really loves money. People feel in love with what money provides. If that “green” stuff in your billfold didn’t have purchasing power, you would stop carrying it! Think about the things money buys: shelter, food, security, clothing and other necessities of life. My question for today is: Do you want money, or do you want what it buys? I, personally, want what it buys and don’t care how God provides it for me. I want to “feel” secure that the necessities of life are going to be there when I need them. The exciting adventure with God, that we can all take, promises all that we will ever need. God goes further by often giving us much of what we want. One might say: “God wants to be our money!”

Look again at Ezekiel 34. The latter part of that chapter tells us that God would provide for their protection (Ezekiel 34:25), their food (Ezekiel 34:27), their fears (Ezekiel 34:28), and care for them as a good shepherd would take care of his flock (Ezekiel 34:31)! Ezekiel was told by God that God’s provisions could be described as “showers”… showers of blessings – Ezekiel 34:26!

God is still calling His people to join His “flock.” He sent Jesus, His Son, to make it possible for all people everywhere to join His family. The provisions for His family are still promised. He wants us to trust Him and wait upon Him. When we rush ahead – getting ourselves into debt – He is saddened. It is not His way. He wants us to be lenders, not borrowers. He wants us to live in peace, not the turmoil that debt brings into our lives. Our “shepherd” will provide all that we truly need, as we allow Him to make those decisions.

Father, I really do believe in your wonderful love and care. Sometimes I get anxious to ‘bless myself’ and not let you work. Remind me to stop and pray before my next purchase. Give me the wisdom to hear your voice and obey! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
