Plug In…Power Up!
Strength God Provides
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 4:1-11
Key Verse: 1 Peter 4:11
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
There are many examples in the Bible of people who received strength and power as they did what God told them to do. They first plugged in then they powered up. You remember the story of Joshua and the people of Israel trying to cross the Jordan River at flood stage. It wasn’t until the priests, carrying the Ten Commandments, touched their feet to the water that the water dried up. They received their miracle when they “plugged in” and waded into the water!
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Peter wrote: “If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides” (1 Peter 4:11). I believe Peter understood and experienced the fact that God’s strength is available, but often only comes after we step into the work God calls us to do. Then, after we have rolled up our sleeves and started to work, God provides the strength needed for the task.
This week we are talking about powering up. The main point is: God’s power is available to us, His children. We can enjoy this divine strength flowing through our lives. When it happens, our lives are blessed beyond words. Our self-esteem is lifted to new levels when we realize that God will flow through us! Today, let’s realize that many times, if not most of the time, we will only experience this power and strength after we have jumped into the ministry God called us to do!
Father help me to trust you enough to begin the work you’ve asked me to do and know you’ll come through with the strength and wisdom needed. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
