I Can’t Take Anymore
It’s All On Me
Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 19:13-18
Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:14
He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
We are most vulnerable to this lie when we start convincing ourselves that life’s problems are all on us. The devil preps us to believe that we can’t take anymore by making us feel that no one else cares and we have to face it all, and solve it all, by ourselves.
Elijah felt this way when he told the Lord, as we read in today’s Key Verse, for “I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” Once again, Elijah was trusting his own understanding of things. The problem he had was Elijah didn’t have all the facts. As we’ve been reminded before, God is the only One with all the facts. Elijah could have saved himself much wasted emotional turmoil had he waited on God’s opinion before reacting! In our additional reading section, you’ll find that God told Elijah that it wasn’t just him. There were 7,000 others in Israel that were faithful!
Do you ever get the feeling that you’re standing alone when it comes to life’s problems? Maybe you work in a place that seems like you are the only Christian. Maybe your spouse is not following a biblical path and you feel lonely in your spiritual journey. Let me remind you God knows your situation better than you do. He has more facts than you do. Be sure to fight the human tendency to jump to conclusions or believe lies that just aren’t true. Wait on the Lord with thanksgiving, He will be there for you!
Father, the devil tempts me with discouraging thoughts. I will resist him today and trust your wisdom and grace! In Jesus’ name, amen.
