Go Fish

It is God who can make us effective in our “fishing” for people who need Jesus!

Lures for Fishing
God-Given Lures – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:19-26

Key Verse: Galatians 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness

It is God who wants us to become His fishers of people. Where God guides, He also provides. It is God who can make us effective in our “fishing”! In our scripture for today and tomorrow we are going to look at the effective “lures” that God has given us for being great fishermen. We often refer to these as the “Fruit of the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit produces these in us—we don’t produce them in and of ourselves. As we cooperate with the Spirit’s work, He puts in us what will make us effective fishermen.

The Apostle Paul starts with a warning in Galatians 5:19-21. He reminds us not to follow the desires of the sinful nature. Those desires will lead a person into a lifestyle that pushes people away from God’s kingdom, not draw them to it. And, no one living for their evil desires will ever inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5: 21c).

When we ask Jesus into our lives, He comes via the Holy Spirit to take up residence in us! The Spirit of Jesus immediately begins the work of making His new residence a place fitting for God. The Bible calls us the “temple of God.” The Holy Spirit gently leads us to follow the whispers in our inner being. It is our job to simply obey. These whispers are always giving us directions that are opposite of our sinful nature. (Continued)

Father, thanks for living in me. I will listen for your voice and follow your lead! In Jesus’ name, amen.
