I Know I Can’t Earn the Savior!
Crucified With Christ
Scripture Reading: Galatians 2:17-21
Key Verse: Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The Apostle Paul, after telling the Galatian Christ followers about confronting Peter, stays on the subject of grace for instructional emphasis. One of the key verses in the New Testament is our key verse for today. Please note that Paul wrote that he was crucified with Christ when he died to the law. Paul was not teaching that he accomplished anything that would earn salvation. He had to die to any and all things that would substitute for Christ’s work accomplished on the cross. Christ living “in” Paul was the result of Paul’s faith in the cross.
We must ask ourselves as well: Have we died to the body? In other words, do we live our daily lives by faith or by works of the flesh? We learn that this life of faith does not mean that we “mindlessly” continue a life of sin (Romans 6:1-2). Rather, the Bible is teaching is that our inner purity and righteousness is a gift of God, not of ourselves! We live in a daily attitude of rejoicing for the condition of our hearts before God because of Christ! In reference to and reverence for this gracious gift of God, I live a daily life of saying “no to ungodliness” (Titus 2:12). When we do, we can say with the Apostle Paul, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. I live by faith in the One who loved me and gave Himself for me!
Father, blessed be your name! Thank you for the gift of salvation. I rejoice in Jesus Christ. May I live a life worthy of that calling. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
