Cleaning Fish – Best Practices
Fruitful Fishing – Part 1
Scripture Reading: John 15:1-8
Key Verse: John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Telling fish stories is so much fun for people who love to fish! Most fish stories are of those times when a person is pulling fish out of the water one after another! Going fishing and not catching fish can be very disappointing.
When the Bible talks about God’s people becoming fishers of people, it also promises success! Our Key Verse for today says this clearly: “If a person remains in me (Jesus) and I in him, he will bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Please note the confidence in the process: he will bear much fruit. There is no “maybe” or “possibly” in that key verse! If we remain in Jesus, we will enjoy fruitful fishing! Telling us to remain in Jesus is much like telling a fisherman to bring a fishing pole and lures. In other words, if you do what you are supposed to do, you will catch fish! This month we have looked at the equipment needed, as well as the lures used for fishing in the kingdom of God! If we take these instructions seriously, we will enjoy a fruitful life!
The good news is: Our Father in heaven wants to make us fruitful. Look at John 15:8: “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (Continued)
Father, I will practice the spiritual disciplines to remain in you! I will trust you to produce fruit from my life! In Jesus’ name, amen.
