Cleaning the Fish – Tools Needed
The “Tools” Work – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-17
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
In keeping with Jesus’ illustration of fishing, we are looking at the “tools” for cleaning fish. If you have ever tried to clean fish without the proper knife and board, you know why these tools are necessary! So, it is with the “tool” God uses to make people true disciples. Jesus’ last words to the disciples were to “teach everything He had taught them.” We have but one tool to clean fish: God’s Word. It is God’s Word, the Bible, which makes people grow up into mature disciples. It is God’s Word that teaches us what to do and what not to do in our daily lives! It is God’s Word that cleans us from the residue of sin.
Why is this tool so important to us? It is God’s breath! The Apostle Paul explained this to young Timothy in our Key Verse for today! “All scripture is God-breathed.” When we open our Bibles, we are reading words that came from God’s very breath—His mind and heart! As Paul wrote in Romans: “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans…” (Romans 1:25). The Bible has been outlawed, burned and scorned by godless people for centuries, yet it is still the most published book in the world and no book has been translated into more languages. God protects His Word; let’s read it! (Continued)
Father, I will read and study your Word each day of my life. I will apply it to all situations of my life. Thank you for such wisdom! In Jesus’ name, amen.
