The True Vine
Scripture Reading: John 15:3-8
Key Verses: John 15:1-2
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
As you read our printed key verse, please note the insertion of the word “true.” The vine represents a connection to a source of life. Staying connected allows the fruit or leaves to grow. Mankind, when we don’t seek God, seeks other sources of life. We substitute the eternal source of life for the temporal. For those who have never enjoyed the real, they are satisfied with the substitute. We who have been connected to God, via Jesus, must show them what they are missing! Have you ever done something for a period of time, thinking that you were doing it the best way possible? Then someone comes along and shows you a much easier and faster way to do it. Don’t we find ourselves saying: “I wish I had known that earlier!” Christ follower, we must make sure we are showing people around us a better way to do life!
The big question, that can sometimes be controversial, is how to share the Good News. Some don’t want us to verbalize the message, but only live it out. Some want us to be very verbal and preach to everyone we see. Let’s look at Jesus’ answer. It is found in John 15:5. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Jesus has the simple solution: Develop a rich and consistent walk with Him and He will use us to shine brightly to others. It may be that we’ll find ourselves telling someone about the Good News. At other times, we will say very little and live out the life God gave us. Most importantly, let’s remain in Him!
“Father, today I will do my part to stay connected to you. As your life flows through me, may others witness the abundant life in action! In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
