Growing My Love
Scripture Reading: Revelation 3:14-18
Key Verse: Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
In today’s printed key verse we find that God has a part in helping us grow our love. John’s revelation lets us know that God rebukes and disciplines those He loves. When I decide that I want to grow my love, God hears that desire and steps in to help. That help is not restricted to a rebuke or discipline, but certainly is part of God’s work.
Rebuke and discipline come to us in many forms; as many forms as there are people in God’s family! God doesn’t use a cookie cutter approach. God knows us as unique individuals and treats us that way. He designs everything, including our discipline, to our unique personalities, much like our children vary in their response to parental discipline. Some children can be corrected with a simple stern word from a parent. Some children need a much greater approach to get their attention. God knows you and what it will take to grow your love for Him and people around you! That growth often comes out of a rebuke from God Himself. Hebrews 12:7 tells us to: “Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons.”
When we don’t show God or another person the love that Christ would want us to, we should expect a rebuke. It may come in the form of a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit. If necessary, discipline may come in the form of a tough hardship in our lives.
Father, I’m determined to grow my love, so I will accept your rebuke or discipline as needed. Make me a usable servant for your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
