Change is Not Possible?
The Word at Work
Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:10-16
Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
The question we have been dealing with in the last six devotionals is, “Can a person really be changed?” We have studied the scriptures each of these days and realized that change is not only possible but expected. Once again, the Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, reminds us that authentic change occurs by the work of God’s Word.
In our printed key verse, Paul speaks of the “Word of God, which is at work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). The Bible is not a self help book that encourages you to change. The Bible is the living breath of God that, when breathed upon us, we are changed from the inside out! Read Hebrews 4:12: “For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
The Word goes to work in us when we read it and believe what it tells us! It will even help us believe what it is telling us: “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). As we read the Bible, our faith grows and our life changes for the good! The Bible reveals God’s perfection and we are transformed, more and more, into His likeness! (2 Corinthians 3:19).
Father, I’m excited to see all the changes you are planning for me and in me! I will be open and ready to follow your lead! In Jesus’ name, amen.
