For today, bring that God’s name into every need or problem of your life: He is the great “I AM!”

He is All-Loving
Staying in God’s Love – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Jude 1:17-21

Key Verse: Jude 1:21

Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

As we continue our study of Jude’s challenge to live in God’s love, he uses a phrase that will help us understand how: “Pray in the Holy Spirit.” That tells me that Jude may have noted people who tried to pray but not in the Holy Spirit. Let’s consider what Jude may be telling us in this verse.

First, we know that if we have accepted the gift of God, through Jesus Christ, we not only have been saved but have been given the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9). The trinity of God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit, are all part of man’s redemption. When we are saved from our sins, we receive all of God. Isn’t it true that many unsaved people find themselves praying for God’s help at times? They would not be “praying in the Holy Spirit” for they do not have the Spirit if they are not saved by God’s grace.

Second, we have all of God when we are saved, but God may not have all of us! That is why the scriptures are filled with instructions to make Jesus Lord of our lives. Some Christ receivers are not Christ followers early on in their journey with God. His Spirit within them will nudge them and challenge them to allow Jesus to be Lord over all the life decisions. Some will allow Jesus to forgive their sins but are slow to allow Jesus total rule over their lives. I believe praying in the Spirit increases when self-rule decreases and “Jesus rule” increases. The freedom of the Spirit will begin to flow.

“Father, you’ve saved me. Now I ask you to rule over me. I want your Spirit to flow freely in me and through me. I want to pray in the Spirit! In Jesus’ Name, I ask this, amen.”
