I Have the Power

The Bible calls for a humble admitting of our need for God’s support system: His church

Power to Choose
Mutual Edification – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Romans 15:1-7

Key Verse: Romans 14:19

Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

Our scripture passage for today may seem off topic. We have been talking about having the power to choose. Our study this week has detailed how we can make good choices—the right choices through Christ in us. But I wanted to note today that God’s power often comes from other Christ followers. We are not meant to walk this journey in isolation. God’s idea was to create a family that forms a support system for each member. We have the power because we have each other to lean on!

In our printed key verse, the Apostle Paul wrote that we should make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. In other words, work hard to support each other in God’s family. When one is feeling attacked and discouraged, another member should stay close to encourage. Each of us need some help getting through a challenging period in our lives. When we are doing well and feeling strong, we must be mindful of those around us that might not be doing so well!

Yes, in Christ, we have the power. That power can come through a brother or sister in the Lord at times. Be open to help; don’t be a loner! Pride demands to do it all “my way” or by myself. The bible calls for a humble admitting of our need for God’s support system of His church.

Father, thank you for the church. I receive its help and support for my journey with you! Grant me discernment to sense when someone needs my support. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
