Dwelling Richly – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17
Key Verse: Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Take a few moments and consider things in your life that people who know you might say: “That dwells in you richly.” For some, it might be sports; sports dwell in many people richly. For others it may be that technology dwells in them richly. Recreation and exercise dwells in a lot of people richly. In the context of these examples we get the idea of that phrase, “dwell richly;” something is well entrenched, deeply rooted in their daily lives; the love of their life!
As we look at today’s Key Verse, we see the Bible telling us to allow the Word of Christ to dwell in them richly! Before we use the Word of God to disciple others, we must make sure it dwells in us richly; that it is deeply rooted in our daily routines; that it is a cherished possession in our hearts!
How would you describe your relationship with the Bible? Maybe a better question is: How would the people closest to you describe your relationship with God’s Word? When is the last time your spouse or kids saw you studying the Bible? How often does your family hear you quoting a promise from the Bible? How often do you memorize a verse that became meaningful to you? (Continued)
Father, I will make your Word a major focus of my life. I want your words to dwell in me richly! In Jesus’ name, amen.
