I would like to continue our study on the eternal reward of hearing and obeying God’s voice.  I am actually writing this devotional on September 30.  At 2:30 a.m. my mother received her eternal reward for faithfully listening to the Good Shepherd’s voice for 91 years.  At 2:31 a.m. Mary Walls was absent from her body but present with the Lord.

My mother was not raised in a Christian home.  Her dad was a bootlegger who trained my mom to sit on the front porch and watch for the cops!  I can’t imagine how her life would have turned out had life continued as it had started, but a little Nazarene church had invited my mom to come to its Sunday school.  Mom started attending and soon God’s voice called to her and she accepted the invitation to receive Jesus as her Savior.  It was not long after the glorious event in her life that she led the way for her dad, mom, and siblings to attend the church as well.  God’s voice called and all responded.  My grandfather spent the rest of his life teaching an adult Sunday school class.

I remember my mom’s prayers most as I think of my upbringing.  She was a prayer warrior and modeled what it means to approach God’s throne in prayer with confidence!  I am so blessed to have had Mary Walls as my mom and prayer partner for so many years.  She is with her Savior now, and I will join her someday!

Father, the hope that fills my heart today is so comforting!  Mom is in your arms now.  I mourn with great hope for a future reunion!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
