God’s compassion causes us to do more than just feel sorry for someone!

Loving God’s Way – Part 4

Scripture Reading: 1 John 3:16-24

Key Verses: 1 John 3:18

Dear Children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions

Do you have compassion in your heart? I am talking about a compassion that causes you to do more than just feel sorry for someone! The compassion I’m referring to is the kind that causes you to act! In scripture reading, verse 17 asked a question: “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has not pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” So, can you do a little self-evaluation and answer that question with brutal honesty?

One of the ways to answer that question is by checking your activities in the last month. Have there been a few times that you gave away stuff in order to help others? It isn’t wrong to sell stuff that you no longer need, but do you agree that once in a while you should just give it to someone?

Do you have a consistent record of giving money to needs in our community or around the world? Again, this is easy enough to answer by looking at your checkbook! I like to give on a weekly basis to local needs by giving to my church, who in turn serves some of these needs. I like to give my tithe online and make it automatic, so I never forget or get greedy and spend some of that money on myself. I like to give to mission funds at my church and listen how that money has served people around the world. Occasionally, I like to go along on mission trips so I can appreciate what poverty really looks like; this helps me be more appreciative of all God has blessed me with.

You don’t have to do everything I like to do, but all of us will give an account on how we showed God’s love in our lifetime!

Father, you have blessed me, please help me to bless others. I asked this in Jesus’ Name, amen.
