Go, Stand, Tell – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Acts 5:12-17
Key Verses: Acts 5:19-20
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people the full message of this new life.”
When we first join a business as a new employee, we are normally excited with the job. We talk to our friends about it. We tell them how the interview went and what things we’ll be asked to accomplish. The details of salary and fringe benefits are often shared with close friends. Why? Because we are thrilled with our new situation. This excitement normally dies down after a few months on the job. After the initial excitement is gone, we must simply go do the job we’ve been asked to do.
When they first become Christ followers, many often experience the same excitement and thrill. It is during the first year or two of a new Christian’s walk with God that their friends will be most affected. This excitement leads to discussions of God and His love. Studies have shown that more people are introduced to Jesus Christ by their friends than any other method of evangelism. Billy Graham Crusades have seen many people come forward to receive Jesus, but all of them put together don’t add up to the power of “friendship evangelism.” One person telling a friend about the Good News that they have discovered in Jesus Christ, is still the most powerful tool God has in reaching our world.
Our Key Verse for today tells of an angel opening the doors of a jail to set some apostles free. He gave them clear instructions: Go find people who need Jesus; Stand and be among them as a friend; Tell the entire message of new life in Christ!
Father, grant me courage and boldness to go, stand and tell other people about you! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
