The Wedding of All Weddings

The gospel is an invitation to those who are far from God to come to God through faith in Jesus Christ

The Wedding of All Weddings
R.S.V.P. – Part 3

Scripture Reading: John 12:27-36

Key Verse: John 12:36

Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.
After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them.

Our scripture reading for today makes it clear that everyone is invited to God’s “banquet”; eternal life in Christ. Jesus is telling everyone that when He is lifted on the cross, all will be drawn to Him. The Greek word used for “all” in this verse is “par,” and literally means “every, any, whole, whosoever.” The good news is that when Jesus was lifted on the cross, He paid for everyone’s sins and everyone will be drawn to (made aware of) God’s wonderful gift in Jesus Christ. In other words, before someone dies, there will be a “revelation” made to them that there is a God in Heaven and that He is the one they should seek. It doesn’t mean that everyone will be obedient to that revelation and seek Him; many will not!

In Romans 1:20, the Apostle Paul made it clear that since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God. This is the “general” revelation given to all people everywhere. As God sent Jonah to the wicked city of Nineveh, to give them a chance to repent, God continues to send prophets, preachers, evangelists, and lay people into the world to give a clear message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is an invitation to those who are far from God to come to God through faith in Jesus Christ. It is only when a person accepts the invitation and allows Jesus to forgive them of their sins, that they can enter into God’s “banquet”; eternal life.

The all-important question is: Have you given your RSVP, by deciding to trust Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross?

Father, I believe in Jesus, your Son. Please forgive my sins and take me into your family. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
