I Know I Received the Savior
Receiving the Goal
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-12
Key Verse: 1 Peter 1:8-9
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
The Apostle Paul is making a statement of fact, not a suggested attitude that Christ followers should develop. He tells us that those who receive Jesus have loved Him and believed in Him and are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy. When I truly crossed over to God’s side, I had already struggled with whether I loved Jesus and/or believed in Him. I had listened to preachers preach, analyzed what teachers taught, and read what the Bible said about Jesus. Can any person truly receive Jesus without this input? Can a person with no knowledge of the implications of the sacrificial life truly receive Jesus into their heart? If they do, it normally doesn’t last long. The seed of salvation has not fallen on “good soil.” Good soil normally has been cultivated and prepared to receive the seed.
I know when I received Jesus as my Savior, I had concluded that I had heard enough. I loved Him enough to follow Him. I believed in Him to a depth that caused me to want to surrender my life to Him as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Him, which was an act of spiritual worship! (Romans 12:1). My love was not a human love, all warm and fuzzy. My love equaled obedience to His words. My joy wasn’t a giddy, silly happiness. It was a deep settled peace that I was receiving the goal of my faith, the salvation of my soul. That fact is an inexpressible and glorious reality!
Father, I never want to stop saying ‘thank you’ for all you are and all you’ve done for me. Today I give my life to your service! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
