The Wedding of All Weddings
R.S.V.P. – Part 6
Scripture Reading: Revelation 22:12-17
Key Verse: Revelation 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
I want to end this week’s devotional section on RSVP in the same tone that the New Testament ends: “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘come’.” Our key verse continues by saying “Let anyone,” in other words the invitation goes out to everyone. All they must do is RSVP; meaning they must say “yes” to God’s invitation to join His family by believing on Jesus and asking Jesus to forgive them of their sins.
The Apostle John was given this “revelation” to see the glories of Heaven and the future events that lead up to the final days of this earthly existence. There are some scary images in this last book of the Bible. However, it ends with this wonderful invitation that God’s Holy Spirit is saying, “come”; He is promising to give that invitation to all people everywhere! No one needs to be lost without hope, Jesus is available to everyone! God wants everyone to spend their eternity with Him. Listen to the last part of our key verse for today: “Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.” God provided a “drink” that gives a person eternal life, if they choose to drink it. That “drink” is a free gift from God! That “drink” will cleanse us from sin and prepare our souls to live forever! That “drink” is Jesus, as He said Himself in the Gospel of John: “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life” (John 4:14).
Have you RSVP’d to your invitation to come to God’s banquet and drink the water of eternal life? Have you decided that Jesus is, indeed, the Son of the Living God, and trusted Him to forgive you of your sins? If you have, you have eternal life and will live forever in the presence of God, what a glorious thought!
Father, I say yes to your invitation! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
