I Know I Couldn’t Ignore the Savior
The Apostles Pointed to Him
Scripture Reading: Matthew 16:13-20
Key Verse: Matthew 16:15-16
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Word of mouth has always been the best advertisement. Businesses have found that word of mouth is so powerful that it takes approximately ten positive comments to overcome one negative comment. When people start talking—sharing their opinions—others are listening and, usually, following the advice.
Jesus asked His disciples about the “word of mouth” about Him. He wanted to hear what people were saying about who He was. Jesus really wanted to drive home the point to make sure the disciples were solid in their thinking! After offering up some of the “street talk” about who He was, Jesus sharpened the focus and asked His closest followers: “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter proclaimed it boldly, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”
One of the reasons no one could ignore our Savior is He wasn’t being pointed to as just another prophet. Those closest to Him named Him the long-awaited Messiah, the Christ, Son of God. That was so extreme, so radical, that even critics and unbelievers turned their heads toward Him when they heard these statements. He would allow the rejection, but Jesus refused to be ignored. Put your trust in God’s Word; the eye witnesses of Jesus proclaimed Him to be our savior!
Father, I won’t ignore your Son today; I will be determined to live in the conscious presence of my Savior and Lord, Jesus the Christ. It’s in His Name I pray, amen.
