Eternity – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:3-10
Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
The conclusion of our earth is not a good one. God had revealed to the Apostle Peter that our physical “heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare” (2 Peter 3:10). The apostle follows this description of these last days of the earth with a very logical question: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” Peter answers the question: “You ought to live holy and godly lives” (2 Peter 3:11).
The good news in all this scary stuff is that God has made a promise to those who put their trust in Jesus: “…we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13). It is this “good news, bad news” story that drives us to be “fishers of men.” We have the greatest news in the world: God loves everyone and doesn’t want anyone to miss heaven. Jesus is the hope of the world and we are His ambassadors to share this hope with the people we come into relationship with. This great news is great when put into the context of the bad news for those who reject Jesus. Everyone who ends up in hell has made intentional decisions to reject God’s generous gift of salvation.
Father, I want to be fruitful today. I want to influence people to love and follow you. Use me today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
