The Cure for Evil
God’s Covering – Part 4
Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:21-24
Key Verse: Genesis 3:21
And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
After the beautiful story we have studied of God’s covering of man’s sin and shame, what should our conclusions be? Should we conclude that since we are covered by God’s grace and Jesus’ blood, it no longer matters how we act? Of course not, or as the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 6:15, “God forbid.” God’s will for us is to walk a holy life, representing Him well to unbelievers.
The other extreme reaction to God’s work is to become legalistic and try to earn God’s smile upon our lives. This lifestyle will destroy the life and joy in our relationship with God that we have because of the work Jesus did on the cross. God would reject this way of life just as strongly as the belief that we believers can go on sinning.
The biblical understanding of what our walk with God looks like is allowing God’s Spirit that lives in every believer to guide our lives. The Bible says that the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite of what the sinful nature desires. We must use our “free moral choice” gift to choose the godly desires over the sinful desires. (See Galatians 5:16-18).
When we choose poorly, as believers, there is grace and forgiveness that God generously offers. However, the consequences of those poor decisions can still be in play. Let’s walk worthy of the Lord today!
Father, with your guidance and strength I will live victoriously over all temptations that come my way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
