Growing Our Tolerance
Scripture: Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
I am very proud of my son, Ben Jr. The most important reason for my pride is his faith and faithfulness to God. On the flip side, I want him to be proud to be my son. I hope I can live my life in such a way that he might even brag about his relationship with me.
One of the benefits of the beatitudes is to be called a son of God. That feels good to all of us who know Him and believe in Him. To be called the son of the Creator of this universe…the Wonderful Counselor…the Mighty God…Everlasting Father…our Prince of peace. Yes, what a privilege to call Him Father and to be His son!
As a son, we enjoy some very special benefits. First, and most importantly, we get to live with our Father in Heaven for eternity. Secondly, as family members, we enjoy confidence in spite of circumstances. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:28 that God works all things out for our good. As sons of God, each of us can face every day with the confidence that no matter what bad news may come our way, our Father will make it all work out for our benefit.
A third privilege is the wisdom that is available to the children of God. Are you facing a problem that needs divine wisdom? Claim your benefit. Ask God to grant you knowledge and understanding. Remember, you’re a family member. Priceless!
Father, I am proud to be called your child. Thank you for all the family benefits I enjoy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
